Episode 30- Build Your Team; Teachers, Counselors, Coaches, Family, Friends.

My parents did not attend college. I went through high school without a clear plan on what to do, and by senior year, I had no clue where to find a college application, let alone how to apply. In spite of this, I was admitted to my first choice school. How, you ask? I was lucky enough to have a TEAM of Supporters, Cheerleaders, and Believers.

The truth is, teens spend more hours at school than anywhere else. Who we encounter determines how we are influenced. While many teens can and do forge through this college admission process on their own, it is 1000 times better when they can draft a TEAM of Supporters and unshakable group of friends early on.

Today our guest, Eva Scalzo, knows a thing or two about building your team. Eva captained the Mater Dei HS CIF Championship swim team, went on to Yale where she swam with the NCAA Division 1 swim team, winning Ivy League titles while concurrently qualifying for the U.S. National Long Distance Team and being voted captain.

Guest Bio:

Eva Scalzo’s passion for education began when she attended Mater Dei High School, captained their CIF Championship swim team and graduated with highest honors. Eva went on to attend Yale where she was a member of their NCAA Division 1 swim team, winning Ivy League titles with her team while concurrently qualifying for the U.S. National Long Distance Team, and being voted captain. After graduation from Yale, Eva’s entrepreneurial spirit drove her to establish her own academic tutoring company in Orange County, California. While helping students reach their greatest academic potential, she was selected to be a member of Yale’s Alumni Schools Committee (ASC) to interview Yale candidates for admission. In 2010, Eva founded Eva Scalzo Advising, shifting her focus to helping students navigate the complicated field of college admissions. By working with an extremely select group of candidates in Southern California, Eva is able to provide unparalleled service and results in her field.

She learned early on the importance of hard work, honesty, integrity, drive and determination, and the impact these had on future success.

Eva is a member of the Western Association of College Admissions Counselors (WACAC), which is an affiliate of the National Association of College Admission Counselors (NACAC).
