First Generation Teen Finds His Way To Dream College
This week, we meet Diego, a first-gen-to-college-teen with big college dreams and a big family of champions to match!!
Diego’s Tips:
What Did You Do Right? Take College Essay Bootcamp! He learned how to write strong college essays that showed his strengths really well! And, Diego learned how to share his story as the first to attend college in his family. In college admissions, that is called, First Generation To College, aka, “First Gen”
Any Advice?
Take full advantage of the challenging classes your school has to offer!
Try to meet with college admission representatives; these meetings gave him a ton of confidence in application process.
NOTE: First Generation students often do not have the support they need to navigate this process. In this case, Diego has a loving and supportive family that knew they need some help and guidance. Watch his video and meet the entire family. They are amazing.
Diego’s one regret: Not committing to more extracurriculars. If he could do it all over again, he would get more involved in school activities and taken on more leadership roles in his chosen activities.
