Coolness Factor: Running the LA  Marathon Essay

I checked my wristwatch; it read: one-thirty-two. I saw the mile twenty sign coming up soon. So many thoughts floated in my head. I had been running for what felt like years. I could feel the thumping of my heart as I trotted on.

The sun was reaching its highest peak of the day and I didn’t see any shade to run under. The small beads of sweat slowly trickled down my cheek and neck. I was really hoping for a water station to come up soon, because I felt like dying. As I turned right onto Sepulveda Boulevard, I saw a familiar face from afar. It was my dad, waiting a little farther past the twenty-mile marker. He didn’t look like he noticed me yet, but I could recognize his face anywhere. My body was so tired and weak and even though I wanted to run faster to reach my dad sooner, my body wouldn’t cooperate.
